We have been helping thousands of people in Atlanta get in shape since 1995 and understand how nerve wracking it can be for someone to try something that can look intimidating. Really, we understand! We love having new people come to see us and want more than anything for you to have a positive experience.
When you come to AK CrossFit to try a class for the first time, you will begin in our Foundations Program. This is a specially designed introductory program that will help you learn the basic movements of CrossFit so you can get the most out of each workout in a safe and efficient manner.
Here’s what you can expect in your first Foundations Class:
- A friendly AK CrossFit staff member will greet you, discuss your fitness level, any physical limitations you might have, as well as your personal goals. You’ll complete some basic paperwork and get a tour of the facility.
- You will be shown by one of our coaching staff how to warm up for class.
- You will be guided through a few basic exercises / movements to illustrate exactly how these moves should be performed. This is a time for coaches to watch for proper execution of the moves. We are NOT judging you to see how strong you are or how in shape you are. This time is simply to see how you move.
- We will have you do a customized workout that incorporates some of the moves you just learned. These workouts are completely scaled to your fitness level to provide you with an appropriate challenge.
- Your coach will review with you the basics of the AK CrossFit Foundations Program. This is a great time to ask questions!
- Only people who have completed our Foundations Program* can participate in the WODs (“Workouts Of the Day”). The Foundations Program can vary in length depending on many factors (prior experience, physical skill / strength / coordination.) On average, students spend about a week or two in Foundations before they graduate to the WODs. Our coaching staff will work with you to guide you through the program.
*If you are an experienced CrossFitter from another gym, you can go through an accelerated Foundations Program. Please ask the coaching staff about this
